You are critical as well and this is indeed extremely important for who we are and what we decide to do and why. Just following the crowd or a trend might not be the best option for us. Heutagogy is an interesting concept and I can see that you are applying this in your practice. I would be very interested in finding out how this has worked for you and your students. What have been the challenges? Have you seen the PAH continuum (Fred Garnett's work)? Pedagogy > Andragogy > Heutagogy

ps. I love how you use language. Sharing this group with quite a few of my "extended educators' family" and collaborating in international projects I have come to realise how precious such a network can be for personal development as well as for the in our students of an international identity and communication skills which will be an invaluable asset for their lives in the multi-cultural society of the future.

I just loved the Habits of Mind you shared. We are currently running a Character development programme in our language school, aiming at helping students reinforce character "strengthts" such as grit, zest, gratitude, optimism, self-control and so on. The list in Habits of Mind actually breaks down or describes the effect of some of these.

I definetely want to have a look at the book. In the UK (and maybe elsewhere) the high costs of university study do place additional responsibilities on us to limit the impact on students of some choices where possible (I speak as a parent juggling with supporting my son through uni!) I'm not evangelizing on any particular platform, but sometimes using a tool that is platform-specific can be more efficient (from the development aspect). I have no preference on platform, I use the most appropriate tools to accomplish the development goal and try to keep the resource as widely distributable as possible.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18103943589430903195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4786208002780032681.post-11241737844521937142014-05-13T15:30:16.793+01:002014-05-13T15:30:16.793+01:00well, it has been in interesting. The most success...well, it has been in interesting. The most success has been achieved through our e-portfolio project where we have worked as a team to arrive at a shared understanding of what we value on the language learning process and how we can accredit that. If you're interested you can see more here:
http://www.scribd.com/collections/4168647/e-portfolio-for-accreditation
I also presented some feedback to Eurocall last year:
http://www.slideshare.net/teresamac/creating-and-nurturing-a-community-of-practice-for
which gives a flavour of where we are in our CoP building. I have found that shared activities (across language groups as well as within them) helps us to uncover our often unspoken assumptions about learning and teaching and those discussions can be useful. Here's a little set of slides too I prepsented to prompt reflection on our role when using tech in the learning process:
http://www.slideshare.net/teresamac/language-teaching-in-the-digital-age

Teresa MacKinnonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14439853587132749365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4786208002780032681.post-43670361220524063562014-05-13T15:12:28.714+01:002014-05-13T15:12:28.714+01:00'...I have been working to support language tu...'...I have been working to support language tutors in considering their place in the learning of their students...'

I am intrigued to know how that is going.
